When we stand on the soil beneath our feet, we are stepping on layers of history, stories, and cultures that have come before us. Recognizing the land is not just about acknowledgment, but about respect, gratitude, and a commitment to a more inclusive and conscious future.
Today, we wish to express our deep respect and gratitude to the Indigenous communities whose ancestral territories we are privileged to work upon and call our home. Specifically, the Stó:lō Matsqui, Sumas, and Kwantlen First Nations, as well as the Nooksack Indian Tribe.
The beautiful region we now find ourselves in is known as S'ólh Téméxw in the Halq'eméylem language, which translates to "Our Land." It is a name that evokes a sense of collective ownership and stewardship, reminding us of the deep-rooted connection between the people and the land.
These Indigenous communities have been the custodians of S'ólh Téméxw since time immemorial, ensuring its beauty, resources, and essence are preserved for future generations. Their rich history, traditions, and wisdom flow like the rivers of this land, etching pathways of knowledge and teaching us about sustainable living, community, and a profound respect for nature.
At RYSE Supportive Services Inc., as we carry out our mission and serve the community, we remain ever-conscious of our responsibility to this land and its original inhabitants. We are not just visitors here; we are partners in preserving the legacy of S'ólh Téméxw.
In our endeavors, we commit to continuous learning from the teachings of the Stó:lō Matsqui, Sumas, Kwantlen, and the Nooksack. Their stories, values, and insights will guide our actions, ensuring that we move forward with respect, understanding, and a deep appreciation for the heritage of this region.
Land recognition is not a one-time act; it's a journey. A journey of understanding, partnership, and a shared vision for the future. We thank the Indigenous communities for their guidance and patience as we walk this path together, ensuring that S'ólh Téméxw thrives for many generations to come.
Let us always remember and honor the roots of this beautiful land.
